UPDATE: Snowden could lecture on cybersecurity in Russia -- source
(Adds comments from Snowden’s lawyer in paragraphs 3–4)
MOSCOW, Jun 8 (PRIME) -- Former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden could take part on Wednesday’s public event for the first time in Russia with a lecture on cybersecurity at a conference in a high-tech and innovations hub, a source close to the conference’s committee said.
“Yes, he was invited; there were talks,” the source said. “The agenda for today is not ready, that is why we don’t know whether he will participate or not. If he does, he will deliver a separate lecture.”
Snowden’s lawyer Anatoly Kucherena said that the famous whistleblower gets loads of invitations every day “almost from all countries of the world” to speak out and lecture on different matters.
“He is a very sought-after person, let’s keep in mind, that he works a lot; he really has many things to do, as he pays much attention to issues of rights protection, among others. That is why due to his tough schedule, he will personally decide where to speak,” Kucherena said.
The conference, held from Tuesday through Friday in the city of Innopolis in the republic of Tatarstan, is devoted to the industrial digital sphere in the country.
